“My Favorite Things” was the first album on which John Coltrane played soprano saxophone in addition to his usual tenor. His soprano saxophone dominates two of the album’s four tracks, including the unforgettable cover of the title track written by Rodgers and Hammerstein for the musical “The Sound of Music”, title track written by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Released in March 1961, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, was certified gold in 2018, and is considered a masterpiece that has inspired generations of fans.
