Released on August 17, 1959, “Kind of Blue” was recorded that same year, from March 2 to April 22 in New York. The recordings were made in two sessions with the Miles Davis sextet, consisting of saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian “Cannonball” Adderley, pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly, drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassist Paul Chambers. The album has been considered by many critics to be the greatest jazz album, Miles Davis’ masterpiece, and one of the greatest jazz albums. Its influence on music, jazz, rock, and classical, has led composers to recognize it as one of the most influential albums ever recorded, cited by many authors and music critics as the greatest jazz album, and it ranks high on lists of the best albums in several musical genres.
