An album that inspired generations of musicians. In the summer of 1948, Miles Davis, in collaboration with the arranger Gil Evans, whom he had met a few years earlier, decided to carry out his project by breaking away from the principles of bebop to participate in a new form of jazz. Having settled in New York, he founded a new group, halfway between the big band and the small bebop groups. Cool jazz was born, but it was not an immediate revolution: the nonet quickly disbanded and this new music took several years to establish itself. On September 18, 1948, the nonet performed for the first time in public, opening for Count Basie at the Royal Roost in New York.
