Segn\u00f2 il ritorno di Rollins alle registrazioni dopo il suo famoso periodo sabbatico di tre anni (1959-1961), durante il quale si allontan\u00f2 dalla scena jazz all'apice della sua carriera per dedicarsi intensamente allo studio.<br \/>\nEra il 1959, Rollins era gi\u00e0 uno dei sassofonisti viventi pi\u00f9 stimati: aveva realizzato \u201cSaxophone Colossus\u201d (1956), \u201cA Night at the Village Vanguard\u201d (1957) e \u201cFreedom Suite\u201d (1958).<br \/>\nMusicisti e critici si chiedevano perch\u00e9 avesse smesso di registrare proprio al culmine della sua carriera, ma lui voleva affinare la sua tecnica, espandere il suo sound e superare quelli che riteneva fossero i suoi limiti.
